International Storytellers Film Series presents: “Samba”
About the Film:
In honour of World French Language Day, our next International Storytellers Film Series screening brings you “Samba”, a heartfelt French film that explores the human side of migration.
The story follows Samba, a migrant from Senegal who has lived in Paris for over a decade, working low-wage jobs while trying to secure legal residency. When he crosses paths with a burnt-out immigration volunteer, an unexpected connection forms, blending humour, romance, and a raw look at the challenges faced by migrants in search of belonging.
With its mix of comedy, compassion, and cultural insight, Samba shines a light on the universal desire for connection and dignity—a message that sits at the very heart of what we do at Lakes Multicultural Collective.

International Storytellers Film Series presents: "Language Is A Love Story"
About the Film:
"Language is a Love Story" takes us inside Ms. Loiseau’s classroom at the William-Hingston Centre, in Montreal, where adult immigrants and refugees from countries like Tunisia, Syria, Burundi, Vietnam, and Mexico gather to learn French. Through themes of love and life, the class becomes a vibrant space filled with humour, challenges, and resilience. Each student’s journey reflects the broader experience of newcomers striving to build a future in peace and security while raising their families.
An official selection at the 37th Vues d'Afrique Festival and winner of the La Vague Award for Best Feature Film in 2019, Language Is A Love Story is an uplifting celebration of courage, perseverance, and the power of education.
Join us for this inspiring screening and take a moment to reflect on how language connects us all across cultures and communities.
