Our Work

Creating Connections,
Empowering Communities.

At Lakes Multicultural Collective, we believe in the power of community, collaboration, and cultural celebration.

Our work is centred on supporting migrants and newcomers as they settle into Queenstown, offering opportunities to connect, learn, and thrive in a welcoming environment.

From in-person cultural events to connecting you with practical support services, we are here to bridge gaps, build relationships, and empower individuals to feel at home.

How We Make
A Difference:
Our Six Pillars

Our work is guided by six core pillars of impact, shaping the way we serve and support the community.

Celebrate

Honouring the diverse cultures that make Queenstown unique.

Through events like Cook Around the World and the International Storytellers Film Series, we celebrate the richness of global cultures, traditions, and stories.

Integrate

Helping newcomers find their place and feel at home.

Our Cultural Orientation Sessions and Community Garden offer welcoming spaces for newcomers to learn about local life, meet others, and build a support network.

Empower

Providing opportunities for personal growth and success.

We collaborate with local organisations and professionals to offer free workshops on legal and immigration advice, and financial literacy, ensuring that migrants have access to the tools they need to thrive.

Educate

Sharing knowledge through workshops and discussions.

From employment rights workshops to language lounges, we create educational opportunities that help migrants navigate life in Aotearoa with confidence.

Connect

Building meaningful relationships and networks.

We partner with Happiness House to foster deeper connections through shared meals and storytelling, strengthening bonds across cultures and communities.

Impact

Making a tangible difference in people’s lives.

By creating networks with organisations, we act as a bridge so that community members in need can access receive direct support through food assistance, emergency aid, and advocacy.

Signature Events & Programs

  • Community Integration Workshops

From financial wellbeing to employment rights and immigration support, we proudly connect diverse cultural communities with vital resources, including NZ Police, ASB, Citizens Advice Bureau, and various other partner organisations.

Together, we offer specially designed workshops that equip migrants and newcomers with essential knowledge and valuable skills to navigate their new lives with confidence and ease.

  • Cook Around The World

A twice-monthly cooking series where community members come together to share their cherished traditional dishes, offering a hands-on and interactive way to explore the rich and varied cuisines of Queenstown’s diverse multicultural community.

This engaging experience fosters connections and celebrates the unique flavours and culinary heritage that each participant brings to the table.

Hosted in partnership with Happiness House.

  • The International Storytellers Film Series

A free monthly film event showcasing important world issues and meaningful personal stories.

Each month, we carefully select a thought-provoking film that aligns with a recent global recognition day, giving a platform to unique perspectives from around the world.

This series is held in collaboration with QLDC Libraries, inviting everyone to join us in fostering dialogue and understanding within our vibrant community.

  • The Community Garden Project

A welcoming and vibrant space where people of all backgrounds and cultures can come together to grow fresh, nutritious produce, learn about sustainable gardening practices, and joyfully share in the rewarding harvest.

This initiative is made possible with heartfelt thanks to the Community Harvest Gardens.

Help Shape Our Work

We want to make sure everything we do reflects the real needs of migrants and multicultural communities in Queenstown. That’s why we’ve created a Migrant Experience Survey—a quick way for migrants and newcomers to share your voice and help us understand how we can support you better.

Your feedback directly shapes our programmes, workshops, and events, so your input really matters.

Partnering for Impact

We are proud to collaborate with an array of
Queenstown’s hardworking organisations to provide resources and support where it’s needed most.
